The Story of the Evans Bender

Roland "Rollie" Evans started in the electrical trade in 1964 and became a journeyman electrician out of IBEW Local 34 in Peoria, Illinois in 1972. From 1964 through 1993 Roland worked in the trade throughout the United States, from the Alaskan Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay, to nuclear powerhouses in Illinois, to the U.S. Naval base in Norfolk, Virginia.

Roland's favorite part of being an electrician on these industrial sites was running conduit and using his ingenuity to figure out ways to get things done easier. Most people dream about their jobs and one night in 1972, Roland dreamed there was a machine that could make an offset in one motion that would make his and his fellow journeymen's jobs easier. However, like most men, he was busy working and raising a family and never really had time to pursue the idea he had in that dream.

In the winter of 1992, Roland started to think again about a machine that could make an offset in one motion. He felt he wanted to contribute something to his the electrical trade. He started to draw the bend points in an offset and from that he knew there had to be two objects that would make the bends. Those objects could only be "shoes" that would cradle the pipe and keep it in place while being bent. From his experience on the job sites he knew that one set of shoes had to accommodate the most common sizes of pipe, because lost parts often rendered machines with changeable parts useless. He further perfected the machine by making it totally adjustable so that the conduit will never be "kinked" or "dogged".

Today the Evans Bender allows electricians to make perfect offset bends in one motion without getting down in the dirt and the gravel to wrestle with a piece of conduit.

In 2003, Roland retired and the company came under new management which has focused on expanding the product offerings into new and additional areas.
